I have 1x fulltime job and 2x casual jobs. I only claim the tax free threshold from my fulltime job as this is the biggest source of income.

I am worried with the additional incomes from the 2x casual jobs that I am going to end up owing at tax time.

Is it true that the ATO combines all income for all 3x jobs no matter what and then decides based upon the total sum of it altogether whether or not you have actually paid enough tax? Or is that individualised? My employers are taking the correct amount of tax each pay but I am concerned that it will not be enough taken if the 3 incomes are combined.

Hi @S23,

It is true we combine all income sources to work out how much tax you owe at the end of the financial year.

Whether you claim the tax-free threshold or don't you'll end up paying the same amount of tax in the end.

If you're worried about ending up with a tax bill you can use our income tax calculator to get an idea of how much tax you should be paying each pay period.

So just to confirm if the correct amount of tax is being taken each fortnight/week from each individual employer then I shouldn't have to pay a debt at the end of the financial year?

It's very confusing if all 3 sources of income are combined at the end of the financial year, then how would I actually know before this, that with all 3 employers are taking the correct amount?

I do not have a set annual salary for each job?

Hi @S23,

Yes, that's correct.

If your employers are withholding the correct amount of tax from, your pay each pay period, then you shouldn't receive a debt when you lodge your tax return. With the 2 casual jobs you aren't claiming the tax-free threshold, are you? This'd mean your employers are withholding at the higher rate to avoid a debt.

You can check the tax tables on our website to make sure they're withholding correctly. There's a column for tax-free threshold and no tax-free threshold.
