I am going to start a role where I will be employed by an Australian company but commuting from New Zealand. I will be in Australia for 30 + weeks per year with no permanent residence, my family will remain in New Zealand and i will continue to reside at my home in New Zealand. Do i need to declare my income or pay income tax on my earnings? and can i be paid in New Zealand dollars?

Australian sourced income has to be declared on an Australian tax return. As to what rate of tax you will pay will depend on your residency status. You will be classed as either a foreign resident or a temporary resident. You will need to determine your residency status. A temporary resident is taxed at normal marginal rates while a foreign resident is taxed at foreign resident rates. See link.
