I'm currently on a student visa & as a Holistic healthcare practitioner (qualified from overseas), I would like to start my own practice here abiding by the work conditions of my student visa. Am I allowed to start my own practice of consulting clients in a business set up ? What are the other requirements or criteria to do so ?

We are unable to provide assistance concerning the restrictions of your VISA or guidance on what you can and can't do. For this information you should contact the Department of Home Affairs.
However, for your general question you should check out the "Starting your own business" page on the ATO website. This lists most of the steps and issues that arise when you start a business. The big one to check is if you meet the requirements for an ABN and carrying on an enterprise. If you meet those requirements then you should be able to apply for an ABN and start your new business adventure.
