I have a supplier that i use for my business.

I have just found out that the Business name that they invoice me under doesn't exist on ABN lookup or ASIC.

And when I ask for their ABN they give me one for their parent business not the name they invoice me under.

The parent business was created after the change in 2012 that makes all trading as businesses need an ABN, so I am not sure what I need to do as they charge me GST.

Hey @Svennot7,

It appears that they're still using their old trading name and not their registered business name. If they're still wanting to invoice under their old trading name, then they're going to need to register it as a business name.

When being issued with an invoice the supplier needs to have clearly identified themselves. This being by providing:

  • their identity (name)
  • their ABN

You can speak with the supplier and provide them with the information we have available about invoicing on our website.
