y brother died intestate with monies in bank accounts in Australia no other assets - all other assets including property was in Ireland.

What tax are we his siblings subject to in Australia. We are not living now or ever in Australia.

My deceased brother had been living in Australia for 13 years at the time of his death and was working with a visa sub class 121, employer nomination scheme. I am not sure if this is relevant.

Many thanks

Hi @Marsie,

None!

Normally when someone dies a person is nominated to distribute assets. They'll need to check how and who can access the money with the bank. We don't ask tax to be paid on inheritances.

You might find the information on our website where it provides a checklist of what to do when someone dies helpful.

I hope your grief isn't too severe.
