I am an NZ citizen on a 444 (SCV) visa. I am eligible, and have a current Medicare number. My husband is on a Subclass 461 New Zealand Citizen Family Relationship visa. I am having difficulty understanding if my husband, on the 461 visa, can apply for Medicare, or is eligible for the Medicare Levy exemption. He is on a South African passport but his last residency status was a New Zealand Permanent Resident.

Hi @rachel24,

We can't really say if he's eligible for Medicare. That's not our area.

Having a read through it's a possibility based on his NZ residency.

If he's not eligible for Medicare, I'd say he'd then be exempt. This isn't guaranteed though because you have Medicare. That means he might not be able to claim a full Medicare levy exemption.
