Good day


Please assist and advise on how I am able to link my myGov and ATO accounts if I am unable to verify my identity on myGovID as a non-citizen. It requires two identity verification forms and all options require you to be an Australian citizen.


I do not hold an Australian passport, license, birth certificate or any of the other required documents.


I have several other forms of identification proof but none, other than my passport, that are requested on the app.


There has to be a way for foreigners to link their myGov and ATO accounts in order to do tax returns.


Your help is appreciated.

Hi @cvanoudtshoorn,


It sounds like you might be getting a little bit confused. There are 2 different myGov processes.


There is a myGov account that you can create to then link to other government agencies. Then there is myGovID. This is an authentication app to prove who you are. You can use the myGovID app to log into myGov, but you don't have to. You can sign in with a username and password.


You don't need to use myGovID to link your mygov account to the ATO. We have a great page with how to link your myGov to the ATO you may find helpful.
