Hello,

I was wondering if someone can advise me about the correct way to claim back ATO-held superannuation. I lived and worked in Australia for around 4.5 years cumulatively:

  • temporary spouse visa 2009-2012
  • working holiday visa 2004-2005

I left Australia and returned to the UK permanently in 2012 - my Australian visas are no longer active. I'm uncertain who my superannuation providers were however I believe that, given the length of time that has passed, these funds should now be regarded as 'ATO-held superannuation'?

The Online Departing Australia Superannuation Payment (DASP) form fails to authenticate my Taxfile number / passport details and I'm unable to register to use the myGov, myGovID or ATO apps as I no longer have an Aussie mobile number or any accepted ID (I left 12 years ago!).

I understand that it should be possible to get a cheque posted to me in the UK for any outstanding balance minus tax however I can't see how to request this short of an international phone call.

Any advice?

Thanks!

Chris

Hello @Chris_1234,

As you've left over 6 months ago then the amount would've been transferred to us and held on your account. To access this amount you would have to apply under the ATO held Super rules. This is primarily done through accessing ATO Online Services and making the request there.
