I have an application for a new ABN submitted through ABR's "Business Registration Service" that has been sitting as "pending" for about 25 days. I also have a linked application for the new business name (also submitted through the same portal) that has been sitting as "pending" for about 20 days. I have just gone onto live chat to see what the delay is and was told to call the ABR. I have called the ABR who have said that they do not have any record of the applications, despite the fact I can see both applications on my portal home page (both have application numbers and reference/receipt number attached to them). The solution I was given was to re-submit the applications and wait for another 3 days. I don't see how this can be considered an appropriate solution. I asked to speak with someone else who can help and was transferred to another department (I don't know who), and the call was then disconnected. I tried to call the number I was apparently transferred to, and it seems to be a completely irrelevant ATO department.
Have also called ASIC who said to speak with ABR.
What can I do here? There seems to be a failure of ABR's systems through absolutely no fault of my own and now one seems to want to help or know how to help.
I don't want to submit a new ABN application and have the same thing happen again. Particularly seeing the Business Name application was initially auto-rejected (allegedly because of a "system error") so I already have had to re-submit that one before. There seems to be problems with ABR's systems, but there is no way for me to try and resolve the problems I am having.
I know all government departments are a little bit useless - but this is ridiculous even for civil servant standards.
What am I supposed to do in this situation?
