I have been in Australia for just over 4 years. 6 months ago I moved from a 417 working holiday visa to a 482 skilled visa. I have the one super account. Hypo-technically, If I left Australia today to go back home and i went to claim my super, would my entire super be taxed at 65%? Or will the last 6 months be taxed at the lower %? If it’s answer one, how do i avoid this?
Hey @Eoinhenna,
We have a page on our website about departing Australia superannuation payment (DASP).
In particular have a read though of the section that talks about how it is taxed.
In short though, the DASP WHM tax rate will apply to your entire payment, including any super you may have earned while working under a different visa.
This is no way to avoid this.

Thanks Jayne. For future payments into my super, do I need to change super accounts then to avoid any future heavier taxes?
Hi @Eoinhenna,
Yep, that's a common way of avoiding the higher tax rate!
If you're not on a WHM visa and open a new super account, the lower tax rate will apply to that new fund. 😊
We also have an article that answers some common questions about DASP.
