Hi, I moved to Melbourne April 2023 and spent two months travelling out of Australia. I intended to forever stay in Melbourne but due to circumstances have moved home for good. I am wondering how I can apply for a tax refund from NZ as I left 4th of May
If you are eligible for a refund then this will occur after you have lodged a tax return. It will also depend on your tax residency status, income you have earned and tax that has been withheld. Tax returns can be prepared and lodged after June 30 either through myTax, paper, or through a Tax Agent. Paper returns are available on the ATO website. (2024 won't be available yet). Check your residency status first.

Early tax returns can be lodged. See this link.
