We are Australian citizens, my husband is posted overseas for 5.5 years. My inactive, low balance super account was transferred to the ATO and I do not have another account - how do I get access to these funds?

Hello there @lmarkusson,

These funds are what we call ATO held super. If it's less than $200.00 or you're over 65 years old we can pay it to you directly. You can request this by using application for payment of ATO-held superannuation money.

If it's more than $200.00, or you're not over 65 you can't access the funds. You can only transfer it to a new super fund or wait until you reach the right age.

Thank you. I do not have another super account and to get one would just repeat this exercise - fees would be deducted and after 18 months of inactivity it would be transferred back to ATO. I'm 51; will the ATO hold this for 14 years? Can I transfer it to my husband's super?
