I received an email from the ATO inquiring about last year’s tax return.

However, I have already left Australia and returned to my home country. I have also deleted my MyGov account and no longer have an Australian phone number.

It is true that last year’s tax return was not refunded due to some issue, and I contacted the ATO about this matter around November last year, but I have not received a response since then. Does anyone know what I should do in this situation?

Hi @KEI-KOI

If you have received an email from us, I would be cautious as this looks like a scam to me. We don't send emails asking you to lodge a tax return. We do however send a notification through myGov advising that you are 'tax ready'. So if you have deleted your myGov, there would be no reason as to why you'd receive this notification. You can verify or report a scam on our website.

As for your question on last years tax return, I just want to confirm if it was finalised? If it hasn't been finalised, you might need to contact our overseas line.
