My ex-husband and I are formally separated but we still share 50/50 the cost of family private health insurance. How do we declare this on our tax returns? We are both single in the eyes of the ATO but there's no point having separate health cover policies as we are amicable and it's for our family. I've tried asking our fund HCF but they have no clue. Surely I'm not the first person to ask this question? How do we manage this on our tax returns?

You would enter your share of the policy amount and rebate. (maybe prefilled). Use the single person tax code. See this link on entering PHI details.
