Hi!

I’m currently working through my tax return and trying to figure out what I would list my profession as in the “income” section.

I’ve worked for the same employer for the past financial year however a few months ago I changed professions (pretty drastically).

All of the income is listed under the same employer but I’m not sure whether to use my current job title or my old one as I held that job for a majority of the financial year.

On top of this, I studied a course during this financial year relating to my new job and finished up this semester. Would I be able to claim the last 2 semesters of this course on tax since they relate to my job?

Any help is appreciated 💖

Hello @orangeandpink

We do prefer you to use the job title you held for most of the year. This'll only have an effect on you if your deductions change, to include what you do now, as per what you claim from your old job title.

This can easily be fixed with a phone call and explanation if it ever comes to that.

For the course, it needs to relate to the job you were doing at the time of employment. Not to gain new employment under a different category. If you were doing your new job before starting the course then it's a simple yes. If you started the course to get the new role, then it depends on how different the job is to what you were doing before.
