I'd like to clarify the movement of invoices in this scenario. It's for the music business.
My band put on a show last week. $3000 worth of tickets were sold via a booking site. The booking site charges a booking fee which is paid by the ticket purchaser, so the venue and the band are outside of this transaction.
The funds from the ticket sales are passed to the venue. The venue provides sound, lights and the location for the show, and charges $1028 for these services. Presumably this is GST inclusive, as there is no indication otherwise.
The venue now wants to charge the band GST on the $3000 ticket sales, and wants the band to submit an invoice for $3000 - $272.73 (GST on $3000) - $1028 = $1699.27.
I don't believe this is correct. The funds from the ticket sales belong to the band, and the venue should only be charging the $1028 (inclusive of GST), and passing $1972 (nett) to the band.
In addition, I am not sure which entity should be providing which invoice. Can I obtain some clarification, please?
