I only made 35k this year as I am a full time student and working casually. I have two jobs, one where I made 9.7k (taxed $170), the other i made 11k (taxed $702), and then centrelink 13k (no tax withheld). Why is it saying I will owe 1.2k?? I feel like I don't earn enough to even owe that much. Is it something so do with centrelink not taking tax for some reason? Or tax on a second job? 1.2k is a lot of money to me so this is really stressful.

You need to ensure your employers withhold the right amount of tax.

When you have multiple jobs getting taxed the right amount can be tricky. Remember your Centelink payment is taxable as well. It sounds like you’ve had very low or no amounts withheld from your various income amounts so potentially haven’t paid enough tax.

Check the tax withheld calculator on their website to figure out how much tax you tax you should pay on your income. https://www.ato.gov.au/calculators-and-tools/tax-return-simple-tax-calculator

You might find you need to talk to Centrelink about taking some tax out of your payments and make sure you are only claiming the tax free threshold from one employer at a time.
