I am writing to seek clarification regarding the mandatory status of e-invoicing for businesses in Australia starting in 2025.

It is my understanding that the Federal Government has announced its intention to introduce the BER, which will require all businesses in Australia to comply with any request made by an e-invoicing enabled trading partner to send eInvoices via the Peppol network. According to the proposal, large businesses need to be enabled to comply with the BER by July 2023, medium businesses by July 2024, and small businesses by July 2025. However, it appears that currently only government agencies are mandated to be Peppol-enabled. Thanks in advance!

Hi @wq405931412

Updated 09/07/2025

We have sought advice from our e-invoicing team and are correcting the information to confirm that it is not mandatory for all businesses in Australia to begin e-invoicing as of July 2025.

You can read more here, about e-invoicing for businesses.

Hello @Yzhou,

There have been several rounds of consultation on this subject but until such time if it's written into legislation there is no comment we can provide on this. If you wish to know more you may want to seek guidance form your local parliament representative.

Once we have more info or dedicated requirements we'll update our eInvoicing info pages.

Hi Teddy,

I would like to clarify if my company, SGE, is required to use e-Invoicing in Australia from Jul 2025. We are trying to understand the current regulations and whether we fall under any mandatory requirements.

Thank you for your assistance!
