Context: One job, same job. The last two years my pay has increased. Currently after tax it is $92K.

However, the last 2 years I have been getting between $600-700 in my tax returns. On a lower income 3 yrs ago I had received over $2.5K. I have checked that I claiming the tax free threshold. But why am I not receiving a decent return now? I have a colleague who is earning not much less than me in the same role and is getting approx. $2.5K return this year. This is the second year I have done my tax with MyTax and not with an agent. Although, didn't think that would make a huge difference.

Hello @ALJ

For a few years we had the low and middle income tax offset (LMITO). 2021-22 was the last year for this offset. This offset lines up with the years you noticed big differences.

As for your colleague, they could've requested extra tax be withheld or they might have claimed different deductions.

Thanks for responding.

They had the correct amount of tax to be withheld. Nothing more. Their deductions are not far off from mine also. So still a considerable gap from $2500 to $600.
