I’m an Australian Citizen by Descent. My mother is Australian and lived in Canada for 50 years. I was born and raised in Canada. I lived and worked in Australia from 2006 to 2013. I have been back in Canada since 2013 and have no intention to come back to Australia to live or work. I want to have my Superannuation paid out to me but note that I am unable to collect it as I still have Australian citizenship. As noted above, I am a Canadian citizen, having been born and raised in Canada. I am willing to renounce my Australian citizenship. If I do renounce, will I then be able to have my Super paid out to me? Thank you for any information you can provide in this matter.

Hey @CanuckAus

No. To get your super early then you have to meet ALL conditions.

This includes things like earning super while on a temp visa for example.

Check out this link on DASP which points out all the conditions you have to meet.

Thank you for your reply. As I understand it, I have no recourse at collecting the funds I have invested in my Super Fund because I am an Australian citizen, even though my home country and primary Citizenship is Canadian and that I have to be of retirement age (is retirement age in Australia 60, 65 or 67) to collect the funds. And further, I have no intention of returning to Australia to live or work. Do you know if there would be any scenario where, instead of being paid out directly to me, my Super funds in Australia could be transferred to my Registered Retirement Savings Plan (the Canadian equivalent to the Australian Super Fund) here in Canada, where they would remain until I retire. I am 45 years of age, so still a few years before retirement. Sorry for all the questions, I find all this quite overwhelming.
