I have sold some shares and managed funds this year and made some small gains (around $300), but mostly losses (around $3500). I have no gains or losses from previous years.

I've recorded this on the CGT Record Keeping Tool, but when I click on Calculate it adds up all my gains and losses, but gives the 'Net Gain' as 0. When I click on 'Save to myTax' and close the tool, the page says I need to add in a value in the Net Gain box (but I can't as it is greyed out). As I can't edit it in the tool and I can't edit it on the page, I'm not sure what to do to force it to make the 'Net Gain' just my Capital Gains less my Capital Losses (and not zero).

Based on the figures you shared in the first paragraph, @anjela81 , and assuming these are your only gain and losses this year, you do indeed have a net gain of zero, i.e. gains of "around $300" less (around) $300 of the "losses (around $3500)". You will therefore also be carrying forward a capital loss of (around) $3,200.

I have the same issue except my gains are around a few thousand. I also get net gain 0 in the tool, which saves into myTax and isn't t editable on the page. Any reason why this might be?

Howdy @atoissogood,

Instead of relying on the tool, you can manually calculate your net capital gain or loss. Add up your total capital gains and subtract your total capital losses. In your case, this would be $300 - $3500 = -$3200.

You can enter the figures directly into myTax. Go to the “Capital gains or losses” section and manually input your total capital gains and losses. This should allow you to bypass the tool’s error.

Ensure that the tool and your myTax software are up to date. Sometimes, issues like this can be resolved with a simple update.
