Hi,

I am currently trying to lodge my first tax return in Australia after moving from New Zealand last October.

I just have a couple of questions:

  1. Do I need to declare the income that I earned in New Zealand from July to October, prior to moving to Australia and registering with the ATO? Is this classed as foreign income if I was not yet living in Australia?
  2. I have a Kiwisaver scheme which I have not yet transferred to a Superannuation fund here in Australia. Do I need to declare the growth on this fund I have made on this since July last year?

Your help is very much appreciated. I just don't want to miss anything, and I would prefer to know how to do this myself, rather than get in touch with a tax agent.

Many thanks

Hello @melsylouise,

Welcome! 😊

1: No, you don't have to declare anything before being a resident for tax purposes here in Oz. So only the income you've earnt since arriving here and working.

2: We don't declare growth in superfunds here. That's a bonus for your retirement, not income earnt that you could access now. 💸
