My partner and I are in a de facto relationship. My partner has been separated for his spouse for five years (not divorced yet), 2 kids are living with the mother, he supports finance and does 40/60 taking care of kids. I have one dependent with me, we don't have kids together. How many of dependants will we have to put when we lodge the tax return? 1 for me, and 3 for him?

Hi @Hamiko

A dependent child includes:

Your child

A newborn or adopted child

Your spouse’s child (your stepchild)

Someone who is your child within the meaning of the Family Law Act 1975.

So, this would mean you would put 3 for yours and 3 for his. 😊
