Hello, I clean Air bnb's under my ABN and my 14 year old daughter has started working with me on weekends. I have been paying her into her bank account, but would like to be able to keep a record of her payments as part of my business expenses.

Can she write me an invoice with no ABN listed. I have heard of a Hobby Form. Is this what she will use?

Hi @Lucyjoy,

What a great opportunity you're giving her (I hope she 'practices' these cleaning techniques at home!).

Without an ABN, she can use a statement by supplier form (I think this is what you're referring to), and you won't need to withhold 47% tax from her earnings.

There's no minimum age limit on applying for an ABN though, so she can always check if she's entitled to one. But using a statement by supplier form is fine.

All the best with your working weekends! 🧹🧽 [updated by moderator 17/5]

@RachATO I have that same situation with my business.

If I have the child complete the Statement by supplier why would I still need to withhold 47% tax from her earnings? I thought being under 18 and completing the statement by Supplier form she is then exempt from withholding tax?

@TamaraATO

I pay my manager's nephew to do a few odd jobs in the holidays or after school. It's about $60 a fortnight, and I have had him fill out a Statement by a Supplier. What tax code do I use: No ABN makes me pay the 47% withholding, it is not FRE, not GST, it is reportable (so not, NOT REPORTABLE). What should I use?

Hi @Elizabeth4207 and @NGPM

We made a typo previously and we've updated it.

You don't need to withhold if you've been given a statement by supplier. Keep this document with your records to justify why withholding wasn't necessary if we ask you.
