Hello, I'm after some advice.

I recently wrote an article for a newspaper and they are requesting my ABN in order to make payment. If I don't provide this, they will withhold tax (which I understand will be at the highest rate). I do have an old ABN that is no longer active, but I don't like my chances of having it reactivated, given that my income is mainly from my salaried job and this article was a one-off. What are the implications if I don't have an ABN? Will the tax be refunded at the EOFY as with other tax?

Yes. The tax withheld will be part of other tax withheld throughout the year from other payments.
