I'm living in the UK and I'm looking for some high level guidance, on whether or not LCT would apply if I import my own car to Australia when we move back. Our car is older than 2 years and is currently worth around 70,000 GBP

I'm planning to ship my car from the UK, because in Australia it's worth a lot more and I'm a little attached to it.

Any other tips you can provide would also be helpful to identify what duties and taxes I must pay - keeping in mind this is currently my own privately owned vehicle in my name

Apologies if this has been answered - I have searched through other answers and online documentation with no clear answer.

Hi @AndreSa

Yes. If the LCT value of your car is over $80,567, then you'll have to pay LCT.

The LCT value is the value of the car + GST + import costs.

Here's some info on the rates and how to work out how much LCT to pay.

Have a look here at some general info as to when you would or wouldn't pay LCT.

There're also other costs involved that are not tax related.

Here's some more info from Australian border force on what other costs you can expect to pay.
