Hi guys,

i just tried to apply for a TFN today (on a working holiday) and after it was done I didn’t see any confirmation numbers, so I’m not even sure if it went through or not!


also, as a non Anglo person, my name is Al messed up. For example, I have a comma in my name and my last name actually appears first on my passport, for example ‘John T. Smith’ but for me it’s ‘Smith T. John’ which makes it super weird when it shows up the opposite way, and may cause problems with identity verification.


so my questions are, is there any way to check whether I’ve actually successfully filed the application, and if the name (my passport has the comma but the application doesn’t, this has already been an issue with other things) would be an issue.

Did you apply online for a TFN using the IAR? If so, it should've provided a 13-digit reference number.


You could check with us to see if we have a record or not. Then you'll know whether to apply again.


As for the application not containing a comma in your name. It may cause an issue, but we will contact you for further info if we need to.


Once we've received your TFN application you can't withdraw or change details. We can fix it up once the application has been processed by us.

Yes I did, but there was no reference number at all. However, I applied again and I have a reference number now, all I'm wondering is whether I will get it in time as I could not for the life of me reach anybody on the phone lines, and I am not 'verified' enough to use any of the phone helplines. How would I even verify my voice, etc. if I can't even get through to anyone? It's a bit frustrating really, so please help verify whether I have already submitted the application because there seems to be no way whatsoever I can check and it's making me worried as I'm supposed to start work pretty soon.
