I have the myGovID app on my phone and my usual workflow for logging in to myGov is to open myGov on my computer, select "sign in with digital ID" on the login page, unlock the myGovID app using my fingerprint on my phone, and then accept the code that comes up, after which I'm automatically logged in on my computer. This has been working fine up until today.
I was intending to do my tax return and wanted to access the ATO, so I went through my usual workflow for signing into myGov, as outlined above. However, at the stage where it should have logged me into myGov, instead I got an error page. This page was branded "Australia's Digital ID System" at the top, and contained the error "Service Unavailable. identity.gov.au isn't responding at this time. Please try again later". In the Network tab this shows as a 401 error.
I tried logging in to myGov using just my username and password instead of myGovID, but it won't let me access the ATO using this authentication method because it's "less secure" than the method I was using previously. Since I require myGovID to access the ATO and myGovID is clearly having technical issues, this means I'm unable to access the ATO at all. I can't submit my tax return and won't be able to do so before the deadline if this issue isn't fixed ASAP.
