The ATO website says you can access your superannuation for braces, however the application form doesnt allow it. I spoke to an ATO officer who also says you cannot use your super. Dentist websites say you can use your super, but when I call them they tell me you cant. What is the correct position? My son needs braces but we cant afford it so this is extremely important.

You can gain Early access to super on compassionate grounds. Have a look at the info under the heading What is medical treatment? to see if what you need meets that criteria and what you need to do if it does.
Can you please let me know where on the website it tells you can access super for braces, so that we can get it corrected.
I believe early release has been tightened up recently.
