I've been in Australia permanently since November 2023, and have worked full time since January 2024. I was not a tax resident for the 2023-2024 tax year, but I believe I meet the criteria as a tax resident for this financial year.
I entered on a 417 visa but have just been granted a 482 TSS visa which allows me 2 years employment. I'm one paycheck out from hitting the 45,000 15% threshold on the WHV, but am considering changing my status to resident for tax purposes (I know it's separate to visa residency, but it seems like as good a time as any to do this now)
I'm wondering what this might look like for my tax situation more immediately vs the rates on the 417 visa, and how this might affect me/any advice for lodging my tax return if I do switch over to avoid complications. Is it worth switching over?
