I would like to get a ABN for the Family Trust to file a RNN (Return Not Necessary) online because there have been no financial activities over the last FY. Applying the ABN online with ATO I got confused with adding associates (beneficiaries and trustee). The trustee could be a person like a Director or an organisation. What should I put in? When I tried to add in the Company Name it was already linked to the application via the TFN added earlier in the application so there was a conflict. However there is no other place to add in the Organisation details. Or should I just add director name and personal TFN? I'm afraid of giving misleading info and getting a fine that's why I am asking before I submit.

Another Q on the back of that is if I know there will be no 'business' going through the Trust at this stage will that be a factor for not issuing an ABN because not everyone needs it.

Tax Returns for trusts cannot be lodged online, unless you use a tax agent. a paper form will need to be lodged.

For your trust do you have a trust deed? Have you seen a registered tax agent?

if not I would suggest you do so, as they have the knowledge on establishing trusts etc.
