My question is exactly similar to that of

@helloaki in the post:

https://community.ato.gov.au/s/question/a0J9s0000001IKh/p00046773

I did not have any income in Australia in FY2020-21 and I do not see the Concessional contributions cap carry forwarded for that year. The concession cap shortfall has been carry forwarded for all other financial years. Do we know what the resolution to the issue was, if any, please?

Hi @aurnobc,

The information on ATO online for unused concessional contributions available to be carried forward is reported to us by super funds. As there were no contributions made in the 2020-21 income year, there was no information reported to us for that year, which is why this information is not showing online.

This doesn't mean you won't be able to use the cap from the 2020-21 income year. When you lodge your tax return, we'll automatically apply the oldest available cap first and carry that forward. For example, unused cap amounts from the 2020–21 income year would be used to increase your cap first before unused cap amounts from the 2021–22 income year.

If your total super balance was less than $500,000 on 30 June 2024 and you make concessional contributions that exceed the general concessional contributions cap, you can carry forward unused concessional cap amounts from up to 5 previous financial years, including when you were not a member of a super fund.

Hi @aurnobc

We'll do some investigating to find out if this is a system issue.

Hi @AriATO, thanks. For consistency, for financial year where there is no contribution, instead of a missing record, would be better to put a '0' against contributions so that the user experience is not confusing. In the backend I understand that the system still does a correct calculation but the visualization due to missing information on the ATO page is misleading.
