I have been opted into PAYG quarterly instalments due to income from a term deposit last year (tax bill of $1800). I also had a salary which I was taxed appropriately on.
But I have not worked this financial year and so have no income except the term deposit so my income will be below the tax free threshold.
I can change the PAYG instalment amount to $0 on ATO online but the reasons for Instalment Variation that have to be selected all relate to the investment not my overall income. Is there any way I can avoid paying instalments now? I realise I will get them back when I lodge tax return but it seems unfair to pay them when I have so little income.
