I've worked for about 6 months as an employee & earnt about 38k, but have now left & taken on work as a sub-contractor (subbie) doing concreting.

I have supplied an ABN when I invoice to be paid, my earnings won't be much as it'll be from mid Jan 2025 - June 2025 probably about $35k, I am not registered for GST as its under 75k.

How do I know how much tax to put aside?

Do I use the weekly tax table & base it off how much I've earnt so far incl earnings from paid work as an employee, so it'd be in the $18,201 - $45,000 threshold currently?

Also, I am using one of my partners cars for work as I just sold mine, I believe I can't claim car expenses as its not in my name but thought I'd ask anyway, am I able to?

You can claim direct running expenses on a car you don't own. That would be fuel. Keep fuel dockets.

You can use the tax table if you like. You can also use the simple tax calculator to determine how much tax you will pay on your projected income for the year.

Simple tax calculator | Australian Taxation Office

It won't be completely accurate as it hasn't been updated to 2025 tax year.

hoping to help.

Cant answer the GST/Tax question, but with your partners car, I would think if you started a detailed logbook and kept all receipts for fuel, you may have a case to claim for its use.
