Today I checked my mail and saw a fine for $6345 for failing to lodge activity statements for my company. There had been no previous fines and this came all at once. I’ve been trying to work with my bookkeeper for months to sort this out but there’s been so many delays. She said that she had contacted the ATO and told them we are working on it but there’s been delays. All of my money is tied up right now and I’ll be charged interest once I’m unable to make the payment on the 11th of April.

I don’t know who to turn to, I’m 22 and my parents always told me not to try and launch my own business, so they will not be supportive.

I feel so trapped and have no idea what to do. Can someone please provide some guidance. My mental health has already been horrible trying to sort this out and I’m concerned with what will happen if I can’t figure this out.

Hi @Jgosc

You should get in touch with our lodge and pay area as soon as you can and explain your situation about why your lodgments are late.

Once you lodge all your late documents, you have the right to ask for a remission of penalties. We'll consider your circumstances to determine if it's reasonable to grant this. @Taxduck has provided the link where you can read more.

If you can't pay on time, we have support options you can access to meet your tax and super obligations.
