I understand the ATO maintains records of the cryptocurrency taxpayers hold and perhaps transact. Can a taxpayer view the data held?

Hi @dtc,
You'll need to keep your own records of any crypto assets or investments you hold.
At this stage, crypto doesn't prefill for your tax return. You will get a message when lodging, advising that you need to report any crypto held or disposed of during the income year.
OK thank you. I'm trying to help a friend. It's the dollar value of the crypto that is not clear as it is not connected to an exchange.
Any advice on determining a value if there is no exchange?
