I am eligible for family tax benefit but I don't want to receive it anymore. I want them to stop giving it to me even at the end of the financial year. I have always waited until the end of the financial year tax when I know everything I have earned and let Services Australia calculate the amount. I have the Services Australia decision made for 2022/23 based off my family income and family circumstances. I have not made any changes yet Centrelink have written to me this week (18 months later) to demand I repay some of it. No explanation. I have asked for an explanation but there is no time commitment to a resolution. I have already spent 5 hours of my time chasing this. I know this will take years of my life to resolve, it always does with Centrelink. The [removed by moderator] the Services Australia and the Australian Government puts you through is not worth the money or the impact on my mental health any more. I am eligible for single parent payment but stopped that years ago for the same reason. I want to be able to refuse all future payments from Services Australia and Centrelink so that this does not happen again however it appears family tax benefit payment is automatically calculated after I submit my tax return. How can I make sure I stop receiving family tax benefit ever again so that I can avoid being continually being [removed by moderator] by Centrelink.

Not a tax issue - you still need to go to Centrelink.
Hi there one thing you can do is opt for the payment yearly instead so you don’t get overpaid! They will determine what they owe u once u do ur tax then u get it in a lump sum. Why cease it all together if ur entitled to it? If u change to yearly u will stop the problem but still get the money! Depending on what u get it’s a nice lump sum once a year that could at least pay for a holiday or even buy some ppl a car so its def worth it!!
