This week I am starting a Pty Ltd company, which will registered at my home in Melbourne - ie. I will not have an office. All income will be PSI and the PSI rules will apply. I will deliver consulting services to government.

My question is this: if my first client ends up being based in Sydney, can I claim the cost of travel from my home/principal place of business to the client in Sydney?

Extending this scenario, could I also deduct hotel and meal costs when I stay overnight?

Thanks in advance!

Hi @Kelaher1988,

You can claim travel expenses if the trip is directly related to earning PSI. Since your principal place of business is your home, travel to Sydney for client work is deductible. This includes flights, taxis, and car expenses.

Hotel costs are deductible if the stay is necessary for work. Meals are generally not deductible unless the travel requires an overnight stay for work purposes.
