About 6 months ago my MyGov ID was hacked. I was issued a new one and in addition the MyGov operator restricted access to my ATO account to prevent someone from fraudulently lodging a tax return in my name. My tax agent now can't lodge my tax return unless I call the ATO for a 48 hour lifting of the access restriction. As it's been over 6 months since my ID was hacked, I would prefer to permanently remove the restricted access to my ATO account rather than having to call the ATO. How do I permanently remove the restricted access to my ATO account?

Hey @Stuart_Chapman,

That's unfortunate!

Just a little clarification might be needed though.

You said your myGov ID was hacked? But then said you were issued a new myGov?

They are 2 completely separate things handled by two completely separate departments.

So, my question is. Was your myGov hacked (therefore they got access to your linked ATO service), and then you got a new myGov account?

Or, was your myID hacked, and then you got a new one?

The best way to know, is, did you call Services Australia (myGov) to get a new account? Or did you call the ATO (myID) to get a new account?

Either way, myGov don't lock your account, the ATO do if you've informed them of unauthorised access to your account.

If you want a permanent removal of the security treatments that are in place to stop anyone else accessing your account (people who might still have your details after already accessing your account), you'll need to contact the Client Identity Support Centre to let them know of your request. 👌
