Hi everyone,

I'm a former temporary resident who left Australia in January 2024. My visa has since ceased.

In September 2024, I tried to claim my DASP directly from my superannuation fund, CBUS. The process got stuck because they requested documents that needed to be sent via postal mail from overseas.

It's now been over 6 months since I initiated that DASP claim with CBUS. My fund has told me that having a pending/incomplete DASP claim with them might affect or prevent my superannuation from automatically transferring to the ATO as "Unclaimed Superannuation Money (USM)," which should normally happen after 6 months of leaving Australia with a ceased visa.

My questions are:

  1. Is it true that a "stuck" DASP claim with my super fund can prevent my super from being automatically transferred to the ATO?
  2. If so, what should I do to ensure my CBUS funds are transferred to the ATO so I can claim them from there?

Thanks for any help or advice!

Hi @ludutruel,

A pending DASP claim with your super fund could delay or stop your super from being automatically sent to us, but it'd be hard to say for sure.

You could ask CBUS to cancel or close the stuck DASP claim. Once cancelled, they can transfer your super to us. Then you can claim it directly from us using their DASP online system.

For peace of mind, I recommend calling our DSAP team to confirmation.
