i am on a Special Category Visa (sub class 444) i want to leave Australia for 5 years, and then return and retire here, is it possible to stop my super from becoming unclaimed super.
option 2 is it possible to return my super to a super fund when i return to AU if it is unclaimed (ie how ling will the ATO keep my unclaimed account)

Yes, you can stop your super from becoming unclaimed while you're overseas. I'd say just keep your super fund updated with your contact details and try to keep the account active.
Your super may become unclaimed if there’s no activity for 5 years and your fund can’t reach you.
If your super becomes unclaimed, we'll keep it safe, and you can claim it anytime either through MyGov or by contacting us when you return. Your new super fund can also help transfer it back.
