I HAVE ALREADY LODGED MY 2024-25 TAX RETURN AND NOW MY ATO ACCOUNT IS SHOWING ERROR 951.22. DOES THAT MEAN MY TAX WON'T BE REFUNDED OR WHAT? I AN UNABLE TO UNDERSTAND THIS. I HAVE CALLED ATO FOR ABOUT 2 HOURS AND STILL NOT GETTING ANY SWIFT RESPONSE. I AM BEWILDERED NOW, WHAT TO DO? WILL MY TAX BE REFUNDED OR NOT? WHAT SHOULD BE MY NEXT COURSE OF ACTION AS TALKING TO ATO IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE NOW.

This error usually shows up in ATO online services and means “unable to verify your identity”. It’s a login or linking issue, not a problem with your tax return itself. We have a similar post about this error message that will help you to get this fixed.


If your return went through successfully, the error won’t stop your refund from being processed. But if the error is stopping you from accessing your account, you won’t be able to check your refund status online until it’s fixed.


We do have an automated service line that you can call to get the status updates on your return. But from how you’ve explained this, it seems like you only lodged today? If that’s the case, you might not be able to get an update until tomorrow.


You should get an email within the next 24 hours titled Your 2025 lodgment receipt – this will confirm the return went through successfully. Once you get that, you can use that phoneline to check the status (until you can get back into your online account).
