Hi

I've contributed to my super in 2024-25, lodged a Notice of Intent, and received their acknowledgment of Personal contributions to be claimed as a tax deduction. The amount of my contribution shows up in mytax under 'Super > Information > Non-Concessional Contributions' which confirms that my superfund has reported my NOI to the ATO.

My questions are:

1. How do I claim this amount in my tax return? Under deductions, on the non-work claim headings I can only see the following:

Interest income deductions

Dividend deductions

Gifts or donations

Cost of managing tax affairs

None of these categories seem relevant to deducting super.

2. I don't appear to have claimed a deduction for a personal super contribution in a previous financial year. Can I simply amend a previous year's tax return through mytax?

Thank you.

  1. At item D 12
  2. Only if you lodged NoI before the critical date

The NoI form needs to be accepted by your super fund before the earlier of:

1.  Date your tax return was lodged, or

2.  30 June of the next year.

This has been answered - the solution was to go back to the "personalise tax return" and tick the box that said 'deductions - other contributions'.
