Hey,

I am currently in the UK and won't be back in Australia until the day of the deadline, so I need to do my tax return from here. I (stupidly) did not link my account before I left Aus and I am now a bit stuck.

I believe my only option for linking my MyGov to the ATO is to call to get the linking code. I have heard the wait times are very long and extremely costly from overseas, so I was just wondering if there is any better options?

Could I have a friend call on my behalf and get the code? Is there a cheaper option to get the linking code by calling? Is there an email or way to get it online? I suspect the answer to all these questions is no but I'm desperate not to have to fork out a fortune just to get a code.

Any help or advice would be appreciated! Even just a guess at when the shortest queue time might be for the call to try save some money

Your only option to complete the linking is to call the ATO for a linking code. The best time I've found to call is right on 8am AEST. After that the lines become congested.

You could also appoint a tax agent to add you to their client listing and complete your return through them. This would (providing you have no overdue returns) also give you with an extended lodgement date.
