My 17-year-old son needs to lodge his first tax return for the 2024-2025 financial year. His savings account has earned more than $300 in interest this FY and has tax withheld prior to him applying for a TFN and providing his TFN to the bank.

He has linked ATO service to his myGov account but there is no tax lodgment option for him to lodge his tax return. How can he lodge his tax return?

Likely need to call ATO to get an option to lodge the tax return via MyGov. Not uncommon while under 18 years old to not have an option to lodge a tax return. 2026 tax return should show up since they would be 18 years old.

Alternative is paper tax return or lodge with a tax agent.
