Hi, I am having some troubles linking ATO to myGOV.

So I can see 2 options to do: providing the Superfund details and PAYG details.

My current employment starts from 03/02/2025 til date. That means it goes over the last financial year. However, I realised that I didn't lodge any tax return for the last year.

Am I breaking any laws? Is there any possible penalties?

I have also read somewhere on this community that for a first time tax lodger, they usually do a paper one. Then after that, the linking will be easier.

So do I mean to lodge my first tax return before linking the ATO to myGOV or not?

If so, Should I lodge for last years or wait til the end of this financial year then lodge it.

For some reasons, I couldn't manage to change my residential address with ATO since I haven't linked it. I called ATO line and they say I can change the addy online if I have linked it to myGOV or have to submit a form then post to them.

Please help it is urgent

Hi @brianhuynh125,

If you're having trouble linking your ATO account to myGov, don't worry - this is common for first-time lodgers. Since you haven't lodged a tax return before, we might not have enough information about you to create the verification questions.

You can contact us on the individual enquiries line for a unique linking code to connect your accounts. Have your tax file number (TFN) and ID ready when you call. Once linked, you'll be able to update your address online.

Regarding your previous tax return. You should check if you need to lodge using our Do I need to lodge a tax return? tool. If required, you should lodge as soon as possible to avoid potential penalties.

For first-time lodgers who can't link their myGov account, you can lodge a paper return. After your first return is processed, linking will be easier next time.
