I recently changed my last name after marriage and have updated it on most accounts like my ATO, bank, drivers license etc.

I'm having trouble updating it on my company detail as I couldn't change it online and it's taking longer to update it on ASIC.

When I tried to log in to ATO business to lodge my BAS, it says my company's ABN is not linked to my account anymore and it won't let me link it as my name does not match the company officeholder's name.

The BAS is due soon and I don't know if my name on ASIC's company details will update in time, and I have no idea what to do. I can't lodge the BAS over the phone either as I don't have access to the document number. What else can I do?

Hi @pikha99,


If your ABN is no longer linked to your ATO account due to a mismatch between your updated name and the company officeholder details on ASIC, you’ll need to wait until ASIC updates your name first. Then you can relink the ABN in Online services for business.


We use ASIC’s records to verify company officeholders, so if your name doesn’t match, the system won’t allow the link.


In the meantime, if you need to lodge your BAS and can’t access the document number, you should phone our business enquiries team so we can help out.


If ASIC’s update is taking longer than expected, you might want to contact them directly to check the status of your change.
