Can't get linking code because i'm an INternational student

Hi I'm an international student. Whenever last time I called 13 28 61 for Linking code to Link my myGov account to the ATO.

They always keep asking me my driver license or Medicare which I don't have

I only have my visa grant, my foreign passport.

Same thing happen first time I call for recovering my TFN because I forgot it. They asked for my driver license and Medicare which I failed to verify my Identity, but somehow the second time I called they only need my passport and that it, I got my tfn back.

Why is it so hard to verify my identity? Is there any office at melbourne I can proof myself in person?

Hi @LamTran,

When providing linking codes over the phone, we need to verify those documents to keep your info secure.

Your foreign passport and the individual auto registration (IAR) transaction ID (obtained when you apply for a TFN online can be used for verification.

There may not be enough info on file to answer the questions and link your services. You can phone our individual line. We might be able to give you a manual linking code.

If you're trying to lodge a tax return, other ways to lodge this financial year are:

using a registered tax agent
lodging a paper tax return.
