On the instructions of an ATO Officer, I have recently cancelled my Payment Plan and set up another. Apparently there was a missed payment a few months ago.

For the question "Payment Method" I selected "Other Payment Options"

I did this because the other options seemed to be for Debit Cards and I want to use a Credit Card (for the points)

I now can't get back in to see or re-do the option, maybe because the payment is due in only 2 days.

Is "Other Payment Options" the right payment option for a Credit Card or will this payment fail ?

Hi @BMobbs,


Yes, 'other payment options' is the correct selection for credit card payments when setting up a payment plan. This option covers credit cards, along with electronic transfer and BPAY methods. You'll be able to set up direct debit from your credit card for your payment plan instalments.


Since your payment is due in 2 days and you can't access the setup screen, you can still make individual payments with your credit card using our other payment methods.


You can also modify your payment plan once it's active through your ATO online services, as long as you make changes at least one business day before the instalment date for credit card direct debits.


To manage your plan or make a payment:

  • log in to ATO online services
  • go to Tax > Payments > Payment plans
  • choose the credit card option under payment methods for one-off payments.
