Hi there! I am coming from a place of desperation😅
My situation:
I have tried to update my name on the ATO app via my Birth Certificate AND Change of Name Certificate. I tried using the Certificate number and Registration number just to be met with messages saying something along the lines of "Your details do not match with the issuing agency" and "Change of Name/ Birth Certificate must have been changed before 1998/2001 in order for details to be updated online". With many fails, I called the ATO
I went through the whole process again, giving my Certificate number on my Change of Name cert but then we ran into an issue (I assume is the same issue I ran into on the app). The ATO attendant helped me throughout the whole call but I was told that I needed to call the Registry of Birth, Deaths and Marriages, which I registered my new name with.
I called the Registry of Birth, Deaths and Marriages and was met with a quick "Basically this is the ATO's problem and not ours". I tried to explain that the Certificate Number supplied wasn't verifying to my attendant but I was told that they couldn't really do anything because my Certificate Number and Registration Number would definitely be all good and ended it on that.
I am really struggling with what to do next.. please let me know what I should do! Thank you:)
